What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Through a CSA, members purchase a share in a farm and pay an upfront cost for that share. The money from these shares helps the farmer purchase the supplies he or she will need for the upcoming growing season. In return, during the harvest season, CSA members receive a weekly share of freshly picked vegetables from their farmer. This arrangement not only gives security to farmers, but also provides members with a fresh source of local produce at a lower cost than they would pay at a grocery store or a farmer’s market. In addition, CSA connects communities to their farmers and vice versa.
What can I expect in my share each week?
Each week’s share will be dependent on what is in season during that week. Typically, the amount of vegetables in each share increases as the season progress. Here are a few examples of what you may expect to find in your share during certain months of the growing season:
June: Mesclun Salad Mix, Arugula, Head Lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Swiss Chard, Radishes, Turnips, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Peas, Scallions.
August: Heirloom Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, Melons, Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Beans, Carrots, Beets, Onions, Bok Choi.
October: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Kale, Swiss chard, Lettuce, Arugula, Winter Squash, Parsnips, Celeriac, Turnips.
Will I be able to choose which vegetables I want each week?
Yes! Each week you will be allotted a certain number of vegetables that you can take home. We will set up “market style" so that you will be able to choose which vegetables you would like to take home each week.
When and Where is the weekly pick-up?
The CSA will last for 20 weeks, starting on June 3rd and ending in mid-October. The pickup will be once a week on Friday from 3-6 PM. We have partnered with Pat’s Pastured Farm in East Greenwich and our CSA pickup will be at Pat’s farm. During the pick-up time for our CSA, the farm store at Pat’s Pastured will be open, where you will be able to purchase chicken, beef, pork, and eggs.
What if I miss a pick-up day?
No problem. We will make up a box of vegetables for you and you can come pick it up at our farm within 48 hours of the pick-up date.
How much does a share cost?
A single share, which feeds 1-2 people, costs $350. A full share, which is meant for larger families, costs $640.
