Little River Farm of Exeter, RI is hiring a full-time, year-round employee for the 2019 season. The position will start in April and continues for the entire year. While hours are normally reduced in the winter time, this is not a seasonal job. Pay starts at $12/ hour, with opportunity for a raise each quarter based on performance.
About the Farm:
Little River Farm is a 3-acre Certified Organic Vegetable Farm in its 6th year of operation. It is own and managed by young farmers. We use a combination of No-Till and Reduced Tillage Techniques to grow a wide variety of crops that we sell direct to consumers at the farmers market and to restaurants year round and through a 44- week CSA. We use high tunnels and caterpillar tunnels to grow tomatoes and to extend the growing season to all 12 months of the year. We also grow various micro greens in our greenhouse. We are focused on producing an abundance of high quality produce, while also taking care of the soil. We use compost, cover crops, and no-till methods to increase the biological activity in the soil, as we believe this is the key to healthy, abundant crops.
What will be expected out of you:
Willingness and ability to complete all of the following tasks: harvest, weeding, bed preparation, seeding in the nursery, transplanting processing and packing produce for sales, making deliveries to restaurants, selling for us at the farmers market, interacting with CSA members,pruning and trellising tomatoes in our high tunnels, setting up irrigation, construction of various structures, tool maintenance, mowing and weed wacking, and more.
Availability to work 5 days out of the week 7-3, with some weekend work.
Punctuality and good communication skills.
Ability to work independently and to follow both verbal and written instructions
Ability to work in all conditions with a good attitude : Heat, Rain, Snow, Wind, Etc
*Employee must be ok with dogs as we have 2 of them on the farm
